Houston, TX (June 1, 2009) – Amid a challenging and quickly changing industry landscape, Houston-based Bracewell & Giuliani LLP has risen to 101 in a list of the highest-grossing U.S. law firms, up from 112 last year. The 2009 AmLaw 200 list is published by American Lawyer magazine.

After posting 2008 revenues of $275.5 million, up 15 percent compared to 2007, the firm has continued its strong showing into 2009 by naming seven new partners, hiring 15 new laterals and announcing that it will not be freezing associate salaries.

Bracewell's results can be attributed to detailed strategic planning and disciplined investment in building a diverse practice mix, as well as an unforeseen boost in work related to the recent stimulus bill. Strong countercyclical practices, including white-collar criminal defense and special investigations, financial restructuring and environmental have also buoyed the firm.

“We are excited to have made such a leap in the AmLaw rankings,” said firm managing partner, Mark C. Evans. “The end of last year was a challenging one for law firms, including our own. Our final results come thanks to a well diversified practice, both geographically and by area of law. I am extremely proud of our attorneys and staff who continuously work to achieve great results for our clients while maintaining the culture of collaboration we have fostered since the firm’s founding 60 years ago.”
