Bracewell is a leader in the chartering of financial institutions, including bank and thrift subsidiaries of insurance companies, credit unions and brokerage houses. In recent years, our firm has organized over one hundred bank holding companies and chartered numerous banks and thrifts.

Our attorneys provide end-to-end guidance in the chartering of new financial institutions.  We have been instrumental in obtaining favorable opinions from federal bank regulators pre-empting state banking and consumer laws, while playing key roles in financial institution conversions to S Corporation status.  Our lawyers also handle post-chartering regulatory, corporate and securities matters.  Although many of our clients come from the financial-services industry, we have particular experience working with new entrants to this sector.
