About Drew
Drew Taggart is a commercial litigator with first-chair jury and bench trial experience and international arbitration experience. His energy and strategic thinking have been the key to quick and efficient resolution of many disputes. Drew has had the lead role in state and federal court hearings, mediations, trials, and depositions to resolve complex oil and gas, intellectual property, construction, environmental, and securities litigation. His clients range from multi-national corporations, to mid-sized companies, to small, startup businesses and individuals. And in addition to his dispute resolution practice, Drew routinely advises universities, private schools, healthcare institutions, and non-profits regarding internal governance, tax compliance, and fiduciary duty matters.
Outside of the practice of law, Drew serves on the board of a local sports non-profit organization for Houston area youth and holds leadership roles at his church.
Prior to joining Bracewell, Drew served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Leslie H. Southwick of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. — obtained highly favorable outcome in adversary proceeding in In re Alta Mesa Resources, et al, against twenty-three purported secured lien holders claiming priority interest over Wells Fargo in proceeds from the bankruptcy asset sale
AEP Texas, Inc. — successfully obtained voluntary dismissal of patent infringement suit regarding radio network systems in the Southern District of Texas
SH130 Concession Company — current representation of owner of 85 mile per hour Texas toll road in claims regarding construction defects against several multi-national entities in disputes in both ICC arbitration and litigation. The disputes, including the defeat of an effort by defendants to enjoin the pending arbitration, have been the subject of extensive press coverage.
Southern Copper Corporation — currently defending client and certain members of its board of directors in a derivative suit filed in the Delaware Court of Chancery alleging breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duties arising from minerals contracts, transportation contracts, and construction contracts with related-parties
Foreign national oil and gas company — successfully stopped an international shipping company’s attempts to attach and garnish bank accounts and other property under federal maritime law
Southern Copper Corporation — defended client and certain members of its board of directors in shareholder derivative class action complaint asserting alleged breach of contract and alleged breach of fiduciary duties
Pier 1 Imports, Inc. — defended the company and its former CEO and CFO in a putative class action asserting claims of securities fraud. The firm obtained dismissal of all claims in 2016, and the claims were dismissed again in 2018 with prejudice
Houston Independent School District — secured summary judgment in HISD's favor in a significant lawsuit involving allegations of district-wide trademark and copyright infringement
