Christopher R. Williams
Managing Partner, Dubai
Chris Williams is a member of the firm's Business and Regulatory Group and also serves as the Managing Partner of the firm's Dubai office.
His practice focuses on corporate and commercial work throughout the Middle East with particular experience in advising on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, complex commercial contracts and corporate advisory work. He has further experience of advising on labour and employment matters (contentious and non-contentious), and managing litigation disputes in the UAE.
His clients are drawn from a variety of sectors including automotive, energy, oilfield services, manufacturing, consumer goods, defence, publishing, recruitment, healthcare and transportation.
The 2013 edition of Legal 500 noted his “excellent knowledge of the Middle East,” a skillset that he brings to his clients doing business in the region and the 2014 edition of Legal 500 commented that he was “responsive and business savvy.” The 2014 edition of Chambers Global noted that, “impressed sources described him as very sensible, good to deal with and commercial,” the 2015 edition of Chambers Global commented that he was “extremely responsive at all times, very thorough, very adept at preparing documents and at advising on strategy,” and the 2016 edition of Chambers Global noted that he is "flexible, pragmatic and makes sure the client is well looked after."
In addition to his work in the Middle East, he retains a broad English law corporate and commercial practice across the firm.
Advising an international defence contractor on the expansion of its business throughout the Middle East, Africa and the Far East.
Representing a Dubai based natural gas, LPG and SNG transmission and distribution company in respect of various gas concession arrangements.
Representing a US based mass-transit company in respect of its acquisition of an Abu Dhabi company.
Representing the shareholders of a global recruitment business in respect of the disposal of its Middle East business to a US acquirer.
Advising on various shareholder, agency, distribution, general contractual and employment disputes in the UAE.
Representing an international motor manufacturer on a number of commercial arrangements including the manufacturer’s vehicle dealership arrangements throughout the Middle East, supply chain arrangements, employment law issues, trading and local law compliance issues, and financing and securities arrangements.
Representing various manufacturing and service provider clients on the appointment of commercial agents and distributors in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan.
Representing clients in respect of the formation of joint venture arrangements in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait.
Representing clients from across a number of sectors in respect of general “doing business” advice including labor law issues, company incorporations, and general corporate structuring advice.
Represented a GCC state entity on the divestiture of a royal flight from a national airline.
Represented an international marine services company on proposed acquisition of a major Middle Eastern ship builder and charterer with significant levels of interest in the Caspian.
Represented Henderson Global and John Laing plc on the disposal of Chiltern Railways to German transport group Deutsche Bahn.
Represented 2waytraffic (now part of Sony Entertainment) on the acquisition of the worldwide TV game show “Who Wants To Be a Millionaire” for the sum of £106 million.
Represented various private equity houses on various minority and majority equity stakes.
