Chris Rentzel has civil and commercial litigation experience in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels. Mr. Rentzel handles cases involving contract disputes, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, intellectual property, employment, banking, lender liability, environmental contamination, real estate, landlord/tenant issues, construction, equipment leasing, sports law, DTPA claims, software development, corporate governance, derivative and class actions, securities fraud, special litigation committees, and data breach/privacy litigation.
Mr. Rentzel also handles arbitration actions in areas such as employment and banking. He represents clients before state and federal agencies, including the FDIC, the Department of Labor, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Federal Trade Commission, the Texas Real Estate Commission, and the Office of the Attorney General of Texas.
Corporate Property Associates v. Varo Inc. Obtained multi-million dollar jury verdict in environmental contamination case on behalf of landlord against defense contractor.
Cantu v. Dieste Harmel & Partners. Obtained take-nothing summary judgment for advertising agency in a multi-million dollar federal court copyright infringement and fraud case involving an allegedly stolen concept for a nationwide soft drink campaign.
Kent State University v. ADS. Obtained jury verdict and judgment upholding a state-of-the-art liquid crystal display patent, finding willful infringement and willful inducement of infringement.
S&W Enterprises Inc. v. SouthTrust Bank. Received take nothing summary judgment for defendant bank in $8.5 million federal lender liability, tortious interference case; affirmed by the Fifth Circuit.
TechKnowledge Consulting Corporation v. Haley, et al. Successful injunction action involving covenant not to compete and related restrictions.
Uniden America Corporation v. Regional International Services Inc., Darrell J. Sekin & Co., Harper Group Inc., and Circle International Inc. Jury verdict on behalf of defendants in breach of bailment contract/negligence case involving stolen high-tech devices and equipment.
Trizec Properties v. DBG&H and Manufacturer's Hanover. Obtained $5.5 million jury verdict for breach of contract.
Wurlitzer v. Roberts. Successful injunction action involving oil well royalties.
Holigan Homes v. Consumer Realty Inc. Summary judgment on behalf of seller in multi-million dollar breach of contract/real estate fraud case.
Holigan Homes v. Oldham. Successful injunction action involving first amendment issues.
Holigan Homes v. City of Lakewood Village. Summary judgment granted striking down city ordinance.
Hoffman v. Darrell J. Sekin & Co. Summary judgment granted concerning the enforceability of damage limitation clauses in international transportation documents
Russell Stover Candy Company v. Fambro. Successful injunction action concerning termination of a lease.
NCAA Investigation (1981). Successful representation of college coach charged with recruiting violations
Behrman Chiropractic Clinics Inc. v. Wheeler. Arbitration award enforcing covenant not to compete.
