May 10, 2011

HOUSTON — George P. Parker, Jr., of counsel with Bracewell & Giuliani LLP's labor and employment practice, is the recipient of the 2011 Joe Frazier Brown, Sr. Award of Excellence, presented by the San Antonio Bar Association. The award recognizes an attorney who demonstrates the highest level of professionalism, exceptional skills as a counselor and advocate and such personal attributes as honor, integrity, service, and intelligence.

"There is no one more deserving of this honor than George, an outstanding lawyer and exemplary citizen," said Victoria Garcia, managing partner of Bracewell's San Antonio office and head of the firm's immigration practice. "His dedication to his clients and to our community is an inspiration to us all."

For more than 40 years, Parker has represented management in diverse employment and labor-related matters in federal and state court litigation, arbitrations and proceedings before government administrative agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Labor Relations Board, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. He handled a pro bono case for a World War II Navajo Code Talker injured at the Battle of Iwo Jima, and successfully obtained for him full Veterans Administration benefits and bestowment of a Purple Heart.

Parker is the second Bracewell attorney to receive the award. Retired Partner Francis W. Baker received the award in 2003.
