Bracewell’s David Lawton Recognized in Hartford Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty

July 23, 2012

HARTFORD — David L. Lawton has been recognized as one of the Hartford Business Journal’s 40 Under Forty for 2012. The awards recognize outstanding young professionals in the Greater Hartford area that are excelling in their industries and communities through leadership roles.

Lawton represents institutional investors, hedge funds, fund managers, and other lenders and equity groups in complex workouts, insolvency proceedings, and litigation in U.S. and international corporate restructurings. In recent years, he has focused on Australian restructurings and tribal gaming restructurings and refinancings. His skills in handling delicate negotiations and his ability to propose creative solutions to difficult problems have helped Lawton rise within his practice and develop a strong reputation within the firm.

Lawton is a member of the American College of Investment Counsel, a by-nomination organization that brings together in-house and outside counsel for institutional investors for educational and industry development purposes. He was recently admitted as an Attorney and Counsellor of the Supreme Court of the United States. Lawton is also an annual guest lecturer in the International Corporate and Comparative Insolvency Law course at the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Outside of the office, Lawton frequently represents pro bono clients on behalf of Lawyers for Children America, a lead child advocacy organization protecting the rights of children who are victims of abuse, abandonment and neglect. In this work, he represents children in neglect cases with the Connecticut Department of Children and Families.

Lawton also serves on the board of directors for Voce, Inc., a Hartford performing arts organization that works hand in hand with local charities, using its unique voice to support efforts to address significant community needs.

The 40 Under Forty list was released in the July 23 issue of the Hartford Business Journal. The recipients will be recognized at an awards gala on September 24.
