WASHINGTON, DC (July 1, 2008) -- Scott H. Segal, co-head of the federal government relations and advocacy practice and strategic communications section at Bracewell & Giuliani LLP, was interviewed on CNN’s hit primetime talk program, the Glenn Beck Show, June 25, during which he shed insight into the controversy surrounding NASA scientist James E. Harrison’s latest testimony before Congress.

Mr. Segal discussed the legal implications of Harrison’s assertion that oil executives should be made to stand trial for crimes against humanity and nature.  “In a struggle to be relevant, I think he was just trying to be outrageous,” Mr. Segal said of Harrison’s swipe at the oil industry. With the increasingly wide acceptance that man-made sources of emissions are affecting the climate, the new question arising is whether criminal charges can be filed against individuals.  Mr. Segal confirmed that court cases dealing with the issue have already taken place.

Mr. Segal, a partner in the firm’s Washington office, focuses his practice on environmental and energy policy development, representing a range of industry and non-profit interests.  He is widely published and quoted on a range of issues concerning U.S. energy policy and climate change.
