Ariel Cohen, Senior Research Fellow with the Heritage Foundation, will conduct a briefing on "Kazakhstan: Oil, Gas and Beyond"

Vast in size, rich in oil, Kazakhstan has emerged from the shadow of the major powers to establish its own identity as a thriving and modern state while keeping good relations with both the United States and Russia. But the export of Kazakhstan oil to China has caused the relationship with Russia to begin to sour. As Russia takes a more active role in Central Asia, it can exert a significant amount of control over Kazakhstan’s vast natural resources and its economic freedom and foreign policy. As the U.S. determines how to respond, what changes should business expect given the effect of the world financial crises on Kazakhstan?
